This role provides operational leadership for a commercial property and casualty underwriting function, with responsibility for performance, governance, and scalable processes. The successful candidate will work closely with internal operations leaders, underwriting teams, and business development partners to ensure the function delivers consistent service, meets regulatory obligations, and supports profitable growth.
This is a hybrid position with flexibility to work from office or branch locations depending on business needs. Preference will be given to candidates able to work in a hybrid arrangement in the Lower Mainland, with occasional travel within the province.
Key responsibilities include improving underwriting workflows, overseeing service quality and operational controls, and supporting ongoing technical administration and platform governance. The role also involves driving process improvements, encouraging use of technology and automation, and using reporting and performance metrics to guide decision-making. Additional duties include budget oversight, resource planning, and supporting capacity management for large or complex accounts.
The position requires extensive experience in commercial property and casualty underwriting, along with a strong background in leadership and stakeholder collaboration. Candidates should bring a sound understanding of regulated insurance environments, policy wording, claims considerations, and complex risk assessment. Strong analytical skills, business judgment, and the ability to manage change are important. Post-secondary education and insurance designations are considered an asset. Experience mentoring others and working with brokers or distribution partners is preferred.
