Tooling Validation Engineering Specialist
Lead the evaluation and qualification of new and modified tooling used in production. Ensure tools meet design intent, performance specifications, and quality standards before release to manufacturing. Monitor project status and ensure adherence to schedules, requirements, and deadlines.
Responsibilities include reviewing tooling designs, CAD models, and technical drawings; initiating dimensional inspections and capability studies on first-off and sample parts; collaborating with toolmakers and design engineers to validate tool performance; and using metrology equipment such as CMMs, laser scanners, and gauges to verify part and tool accuracy. You will develop and execute validation plans, including IQ/OQ/PQ protocols where applicable, create and maintain project plans, and document validation results and tooling changes.
The role also involves root cause analysis and corrective actions for tooling issues, supporting mold trials, tool debug, and process optimization, and working closely with product development, quality, procurement, manufacturing, and suppliers to ensure smooth integration and timely delivery. Technical support during production ramp-up and post-launch troubleshooting will also be required.
Qualifications include a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, along with 5+ years of experience in tooling, mold validation, or precision manufacturing. Strong knowledge of injection molding, and experience with die casting and stamping, is preferred. Familiarity with metrology tools, statistical analysis, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, mold flow analysis, and validation in regulated industries is required. Proficiency in CAD software, including SolidWorks, and strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills are important. Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification is an asset.
