This senior engineering role supports ship design and repair work across multiple project phases, from early requirements definition through analysis, material selection, documentation, execution, and close-out. Working with a technical manager, the engineer contributes to both new-build and refurbishment projects, with responsibility for structural and naval architecture tasks that help ensure designs meet contractual, regulatory, and classification requirements.
Key duties include preparing and checking calculation packages and design documents, identifying practical and cost-effective engineering solutions, and developing material specifications and bills of material aligned with project needs. The role also involves reviewing technical work completed by junior staff or external contributors, offering guidance where needed, and helping maintain quality across deliverables.
The successful candidate will have a degree in naval architecture, substantial experience in ship design and structural engineering, and professional engineering registration in British Columbia. Strong knowledge of stability, weight, resistance, powering, seakeeping, and structural design is important, along with familiarity with vessel types such as research, fishing, ice-capable, and support ships. Experience with noise prediction, production methods, technical writing, and common engineering document systems is also valuable.
This position requires strong analytical ability, clear communication, sound judgment, good organization, and a commitment to safety. Travel may be required based on business needs.
