An experienced financial professional is needed to support budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and year-end accounting activities within a public sector environment. Reporting to Finance leadership, this role helps prepare financial plans, monitor operating results, and maintain accurate records for internal programs and externally funded initiatives.
Key responsibilities include coordinating budget preparation, tracking salary and benefit costs, reviewing financial forecasts and variance reports, and supporting the development of annual financial statements. The role also involves reviewing grant and subsidy claims, checking supporting documentation for accuracy, assisting with revenue and receivable monitoring, and preparing reconciliation materials for audits and year-end settlements. In addition, the position provides guidance to internal teams and external partners on financial processes, contributes to the upkeep of accounting systems, and ensures reporting aligns with applicable policies and public sector requirements.
The successful candidate will have a post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, along with several years of relevant accounting experience in a computerized setting. A professional accounting designation is an asset, and experience in the public sector or with public sector accounting standards would be beneficial. Strong communication skills, advanced spreadsheet ability, and familiarity with enterprise financial systems are important. A satisfactory police record check is required.
