Senior Dam Safety Engineer

This is a full-time permanent leadership role for an experienced dam engineering professional. The position is responsible for overseeing a dam safety function and serving as the most senior technical resource for safety-related matters involving water-retaining and hydroelectric infrastructure. In this role, you would provide independent engineering judgment, support executive decision-making, and advise governance bodies on risk, compliance, and long-term asset stewardship. Key responsibilities include guiding a dam safety management framework, reviewing technical assessments, supporting inspection and monitoring programs, contributing to emergency preparedness, and helping shape rehabilitation and capital planning for critical infrastructure. You would also act as a point of contact with regulators, public agencies, Indigenous communities, and technical stakeholders on dam safety topics. The successful candidate will have a degree in civil engineering or a closely related field, along with eligibility for professional engineering registration in the territory. A substantial background in engineering is required, including significant direct experience with dam structures, dam safety, hydroelectric facilities, or similar water-retaining systems. Strong knowledge of safety governance, risk evaluation, regulatory compliance, and industry standards is essential. Experience advising senior leadership and participating in high-level technical review processes will be important. Advanced education and prior leadership in a comparable senior dam safety role are considered assets.
