Position: Senior Communications Strategist Location: Ottawa, ON (In-person/Hybrid) Employment Type: Full-Time Department: Operations - Communications Reports To: Communications Manager The Senior Communications Strategist will support the development and implementation of strategic communications initiatives that align with organizational priorities. This role provides strategic communications advice to ensure that the organization's work is communicated clearly and accurately. Key Responsibilities include: Collaborating with the Manager to create and execute internal and external communications plans, strategies, and campaigns. Developing various communications products such as press releases, briefing notes, key messages, and presentations. Providing strategic communications advice to senior leadership regarding messaging and media readiness. Leading media relations activities, including proactive media planning and spokesperson preparation. Supporting communications for public engagements and special projects. Building and maintaining relationships with external partners to enhance outreach efforts. Directing digital and multimedia storytelling across various platforms. Monitoring website performance and digital engagement metrics. Reviewing and editing communications materials for clarity and consistency. Coordinating communications timelines and workflows across multiple initiatives. Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 4–6 years of professional experience in strategic communications or related fields. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Strong understanding of communications planning and media readiness. Excellent relationship-building skills. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Knowledge of digital communications and social media platforms. Willingness to travel as required.
