Recreation Manager

We are seeking an experienced Recreation Manager to oversee the planning and delivery of community recreation services, facilities, parks, and public programs. This leadership role is responsible for coordinating day-to-day operations, supporting staff, and helping ensure services are safe, well-organized, and responsive to community needs. Reporting to senior administration, the successful candidate will work closely with internal teams, community groups, facility users, elected officials, and board members. The position involves supervising a mixed team of permanent, seasonal, and program staff, along with fostering a positive workplace culture through coaching, performance management, and professional development. Key duties include managing recreation programs and events, overseeing facility and outdoor space operations, preparing and monitoring budgets, supporting procurement and fee setting, and assisting with funding applications and reporting. The role also includes policy development, project coordination, contractor oversight, and collaboration on plans that support community safety and service improvement. The ideal candidate will have post-secondary education in recreation, sport, public administration, business, or a related area, along with several years of experience in recreation services and leadership. Strong budgeting, project management, communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills are important, as is the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders. Experience in a municipal or unionized setting is an asset. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
