We are seeking an experienced recreation leader to oversee municipal parks, facilities, programs, and community events in a northern community setting. This role reports to senior administration and plays a key part in guiding day-to-day operations, long-range planning, and service improvement across recreation services.
The successful candidate will manage a varied team that may include permanent, seasonal, and program staff, while also working closely with community groups, facility users, boards, elected officials, and other public-sector partners. Core duties include planning and delivering recreation programs and special events, supporting safe and efficient facility operations, and helping coordinate use of outdoor and indoor amenities such as fields, trails, playgrounds, and other public spaces.
This position also involves staff supervision, coaching, performance management, budget oversight, purchasing, fee review, and support for grants or other external funding opportunities. The manager will contribute to policy development, operational procedures, and safety practices, and may oversee projects involving contractors or consultants. Strong communication, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills are important, along with the ability to prepare reports and recommendations for leadership and governance bodies.
The ideal candidate will bring a relevant post-secondary education, several years of recreation experience, and background in supervisory or management roles. Experience with municipal operations, planning, budgeting, and community engagement is an asset. A valid driver’s licence or willingness to obtain one may be required.
