Payroll Manager

This role reports to the Controller and provides hands-on leadership across payroll and related finance operations, including accounts payable, expense processing, and accounts receivable. It is responsible for making sure day-to-day workflows are completed accurately, on schedule, and in line with legislation, internal controls, and company policies. The position also oversees operational month-end close activities, helps maintain strong control practices, contributes to policy development where needed, and supports annual audit preparation. In the Controller’s absence, the manager may also provide coverage for accounting leadership duties and help drive improvements across finance processes. The role includes leading and coaching team members, setting priorities, monitoring performance, and supporting hiring and onboarding when needed. Core payroll duties include end-to-end processing, related accounting entries, reconciliations, statutory remittances, and year-end activities. The manager also works closely with HR or people teams to ensure employee changes, leave situations, and terminations are reflected correctly. In addition, the position oversees invoice processing, vendor payments, employee expense claims, billing, and collections, while resolving discrepancies and maintaining clear records. Strong attention to detail, sound judgement, and the ability to handle escalations are essential.
