Mortgage Underwriter

We are seeking an experienced lending professional to assess and adjudicate a range of consumer credit applications, with a primary focus on residential mortgages. In this role, you will review financial information, credit history, income, and collateral to determine whether applications meet internal lending standards and regulatory requirements. You will prepare clear recommendations for approvals or declines, structure deals within policy, and manage files through to funding. The position requires a prudent approach to credit risk, strong judgment, and the ability to balance service quality with sound lending decisions. You will work closely with internal teams and external referral partners to support a smooth application and funding process, while maintaining a professional reputation and consistent communication throughout each file. There may also be opportunities to help explain new lending products and support partner training when needed. The ideal candidate has several years of retail credit adjudication experience, including direct mortgage underwriting exposure. A post-secondary education combined with relevant lending experience is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills, solid numerical ability, attention to detail, and a customer-focused mindset are essential. Proficiency with common office software and familiarity with compliance, risk controls, and anti-money laundering practices are important for success in this role.
