Legal Counsel – Economic Development Team
We are seeking a qualified solicitor to join a practice focused on supporting Indigenous interests in economic development matters. The role involves advising on a broad range of transactional and advisory work related to business growth, corporate structuring, financing, and major projects.
The ideal candidate will have 5–7 years of call, though candidates with less experience may be considered if they bring the required background. Membership in good standing with a provincial law society is required, and admission in additional northern jurisdictions would be an asset. A genuine interest in developing a practice serving Indigenous communities is important.
The successful candidate will have experience in mergers and acquisitions, secured lending and financing transactions, major projects in sectors such as energy, mining, and infrastructure, and corporate work including reorganizations and corporate finance. Experience managing key components of large and complex transactions is required. Knowledge of regulatory, environmental, Indigenous, securities, and tax law is also an asset.
Strong organizational, time management, writing, advocacy, and negotiation skills are essential. The role requires the ability to explain complex legal and procedural issues to diverse audiences, work independently and collaboratively, mentor junior team members, and travel as needed to build client relationships.
Compensation is competitive and based on experience and year of call. Benefits include extended health coverage, employer retirement contributions, paid professional fees, and a continuing professional development allowance. Indigenous applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
