This position is responsible for supporting a safe and compliant workplace across a public sector organization. Working closely with supervisors, managers, employee groups, and a joint health and safety committee, the role helps maintain and improve a workplace health and safety program. The successful candidate will review work practices, equipment, and site conditions to identify hazards, assess risk, and recommend practical control measures that reduce injuries, illness, and organizational exposure.
Key duties include advising leaders on compliance requirements, assisting with incident and concern investigations, preparing follow-up reports, coordinating safety-related initiatives, and developing training or awareness materials. The role also involves conducting ergonomic reviews, supporting committee operations, and keeping records and documentation current. In addition, this position provides assistance to emergency management activities and may act as a backup resource when needed.
The ideal candidate will have post-secondary education in occupational health and safety or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Professional certification or progress toward it is considered an asset, along with experience in public sector or unionized environments. A valid driver’s licence is required, and employment is subject to a satisfactory background check for roles of trust.
