We are seeking a senior legal leader to serve as the organization’s first in-house counsel and a trusted advisor to executive leadership and the board. This role provides broad legal support across business operations, governance, and strategic decision-making, with careful attention to the legal and regulatory environment relevant to an Indigenous-led enterprise.
The General Counsel will guide leaders on legal risk, compliance, and the implications of major corporate and commercial decisions. Responsibilities include advising on contracts, business arrangements, transactions, and governance matters; supporting board processes and corporate record-keeping; and helping structure partnerships, joint ventures, and acquisitions in a way that protects the organization’s interests.
This position also involves handling matters connected to Indigenous governance and community priorities, coordinating with outside advisors when needed, and keeping leadership informed of legal and regulatory developments that may affect operations. In addition, the role oversees dispute resolution and litigation strategy, working to resolve issues efficiently while safeguarding the organization’s position.
The successful candidate will help build and maintain a practical legal compliance framework, including policies, procedures, training, and oversight of external counsel relationships. Qualified candidates will be members in good standing of the British Columbia bar with substantial in-house or comparable experience and a strong background in corporate and commercial law. Familiarity with real estate, regulatory, and Indigenous law matters is an asset.
