Functional Software Engineer

We are seeking a software engineer with a strong background in functional programming to help build and improve a cloud-based SaaS platform used for financial planning and forecasting in the public sector. This role focuses on developing reliable, maintainable software that supports data-driven decision-making for local government users. In this position, you will work on both new and existing systems as part of a collaborative engineering team. You will take ownership of projects from concept through delivery, including understanding the problem space, shaping the technical approach, and carrying the work through implementation and release. A key part of the job is improving code quality, strengthening the underlying domain model, and helping evolve development practices, tooling, and deployment workflows to support reliability and a better engineering experience. The team values thoughtful software design, strong testing practices, and clean separation between business logic and side effects. You should be comfortable collaborating closely with other engineers, communicating technical ideas clearly, and working through ambiguous problems with care. This is an on-site role based in Victoria, BC. We are looking for someone with prior software engineering experience, ideally with functional programming exposure, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team. A degree in computer science or a related field is preferred, though relevant experience may be considered in its place.
