A public-sector organization is seeking a senior leader to guide heritage, culture, and language programming. Reporting to the executive leadership team, this role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and improving services, initiatives, and related activities so they align with community priorities, legal obligations, and long-term strategic goals. The position oversees day-to-day departmental operations, including budgeting, resource planning, and staff supervision. It also requires regular communication with community members, leadership, internal departments, external agencies, and cultural organizations to support collaboration and ensure programs remain responsive and effective. The successful candidate will bring a post-secondary background in a relevant field such as cultural studies, archaeology, anthropology, museum studies, or heritage resource management, along with several years of related experience. An equivalent mix of education and experience may be considered. Strong knowledge of heritage-related laws, agreements, governance systems, traditional protocols, and the management of traditional knowledge is important, as is experience working respectfully with Elders and community knowledge holders. Additional strengths may include negotiation, mediation, conflict resolution, and experience in a senior management environment. Applicants should also have solid financial management skills and the ability to lead, support, and supervise team members effectively. Conditions of employment include a criminal record check, a valid driver’s licence, and completion of cultural awareness training.
