Deputy Director, Safety and Security

This leadership role supports the organization’s safety, security, and regulatory programs across marine operations, terminals, and related facilities. Working under the Director of Safety and Security, the position helps maintain and improve the safety management framework, security procedures, and occupational health and safety practices while supporting compliance with applicable requirements. The successful candidate will provide practical guidance to operational teams and assigned staff, help coordinate projects and committee work, and follow through on action items arising from reviews, audits, incidents, and inspections. The role includes contributing to risk assessments, hazard reviews, and security evaluations, as well as recommending and tracking corrective measures. It also involves supporting internal audit activity, assisting with external regulatory reviews, and preparing clear reports and recommendations for leadership. Other responsibilities include helping strengthen emergency preparedness, drill planning, incident investigation, and security response activities, along with supporting training, workplace safety initiatives, and communications with regulators and other oversight bodies. The position may also contribute to annual planning, budgeting input, and deputize for the Director on select matters when required. Candidates should have experience in a regulated operational setting and be familiar with marine safety systems, security programs, and occupational health and safety practices. Strong communication, analytical, and reporting skills are essential, along with sound judgment and the ability to work effectively with both shipboard and shore-based teams. Some travel, flexible scheduling, and occasional emergency response participation will be expected.
