Controller, Business Operations

This role provides senior financial and operational leadership for a not-for-profit organization. Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as a key member of the leadership team, the Controller, Business Operations oversees core finance functions including planning, budgeting, accounting, reporting, payroll, audit coordination, grant administration, cash management, and internal controls. The position also supports broader business operations such as vendor coordination, contract administration, technology oversight, corporate reporting, continuity planning, risk management, and organization-wide improvement efforts. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and the Board, using financial analysis, forecasting, and risk assessment to support decisions and long-term sustainability. Responsibilities include preparing budgets and forecasts, producing monthly financial statements and variance analysis, and developing business cases and recommendations for leadership. This role manages full-cycle accounting activities, including payables, receivables, reconciliations, and payroll, while maintaining strong treasury and month-end/year-end processes. It also leads external audit coordination, compliance monitoring, and governance support, ensuring alignment with applicable accounting standards, legislation, and funding requirements. In addition, the position helps guide operational processes, business continuity planning, risk mitigation, and site-related administration.
