Chief Engineer/ Second Engineer

The position of Chief Engineer/Second Engineer involves the overall management, maintenance, and operation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems on a passenger transfer vessel. The successful candidate will ensure the safe and efficient functioning of the vessel's machinery and equipment while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities include overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of all vessel machinery and equipment, monitoring and optimizing performance of propulsion, power generation, HVAC, plumbing, and auxiliary systems. The role also includes implementing preventive maintenance programs, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and coordinating repairs with external contractors. Safety and compliance are critical aspects of the role, requiring the enforcement of safety protocols, conducting regular inspections, and maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities. The Chief Engineer/Second Engineer will foster a culture of teamwork and professionalism, providing guidance to the onboard team. Additionally, the role involves budget and inventory management, developing and monitoring the engineering budget, maintaining inventory levels of spare parts, and ensuring timely procurement of necessary items. Accurate documentation and reporting on vessel operations, maintenance, and budget utilization are also essential. Candidates should possess a minimum Second-Class Engineer certificate of competence, several years of relevant experience, strong English communication skills, and computer literacy. The position requires the ability to pass a drug and alcohol test and involves physical demands such as frequent lifting and standing.
