The Assistant Lead Carpenter will report to the Lead Carpenter or designate and is responsible for overseeing and performing skilled carpentry work for renovation, repair, and new construction projects. Key responsibilities include supervising and mentoring junior workers or apprentices, coordinating with other trades, ensuring work quality and safety, and contributing to project planning and material ordering.
Essential functions include executing carpentry-related renovations, mentoring apprentices, coordinating day-to-day work on housing sites, interpreting construction drawings, conducting site assessments, and communicating progress to management. The role also involves collaborating with other contractors and attending planning meetings as necessary.
Qualifications include a preferred Red Seal certification, training in First Aid, and construction trade certification. Candidates should have several years of experience in the construction industry, including supervisory experience, along with strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Experience in a community training setting is an asset.
Physical demands are typical of a construction site, and work will be performed in both construction and office environments. A valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a current Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector clearance are required.
This is a full-time permanent position with a starting wage of $43/hour, along with comprehensive benefits and a pension plan. Hours may reach up to 80 hours biweekly.
