Assistant Director of Care

Assistant Director of Care We are seeking a full-time temporary Assistant Director of Care for a one-year term in Victoria, BC. Reporting to the Director of Care or designate, this role provides direct resident care while supporting, directing, and mentoring care staff to ensure individualized, resident-focused care. The successful candidate will act as a professional role model and help maintain accountability for nursing practice and care standards. Key responsibilities include supervising day-to-day care delivery, conducting audits, identifying areas for improvement, and following up on corrective actions. The role also includes participating in care conferences, medication reviews, quality improvement meetings, and health and safety meetings. You will communicate with physicians and families regarding resident care, assist with scheduling and follow-up after care conferences, and support hiring, performance management, and staff development. Additional duties include reviewing incident reports, assisting with mandatory education and clinical audits, ensuring care plans are current, and supporting regulatory reporting requirements. The position may require stepping in as a nurse on the floor during staffing shortages and taking clinical on-call duties as needed. Qualifications include current registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, along with progressive nursing experience and leadership skills. A minimum of three years’ experience in management or administration is required, as well as three years’ experience in geriatrics or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A vulnerable sector criminal record check is required. Excellent English communication skills are essential.
