Air Combat Systems Officers are responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing aircraft missions and crew activities. In this role, you help manage advanced navigation, sensor, communications, electronic warfare, and weapons-related systems while supporting safe and effective mission execution. You may also lead or coordinate the tactical work of other teams in a range of operational settings.
This position can involve diverse mission types such as search and rescue, maritime patrol, surveillance, anti-submarine work, air refuelling, humanitarian support, joint operations with allied partners, training support, and unmanned aircraft activities. The work can take place at flying units across the country, at deployed locations abroad, or in sea-based environments. Some experienced officers also contribute to planning, policy development, standards, and staff work in larger operational or multinational settings.
Candidates must successfully complete an aircrew selection process before continuing in the hiring pathway. Applicants may enter through direct entry if they already meet the education requirements, or through a paid education route that includes degree studies followed by military training. After joining, successful candidates complete basic officer training and additional occupation-specific instruction before being posted to their first assignment.
